I had wanted to visit Dungeness for ages as there is a small beach house there clad completely in black rubber and I knew it was a bit of an architectural oddity. But apart from there being a massive nuclear power station in Dungeness which dominates the landscape I knew very little about the place.
I was in for a treat as what a strange beauty the place has with its expanse of shingle beach which is dotted with rare flowers and desert plants. The birds called and wheeled above my head in a vast sky which seems to go on forever.
The shingle is scattered with long abandoned tumbled down fishermen’s huts that jut out at odd angles from the landscape.
While there are lots of Tar painted timber cottages doted along the shingle at Dungeness there are also modern homes such as this above.
If you get a chance to visit Dungeness you must as it is magical!
Oh and if you are wondering about the rubber house, I’m saving that story till next time
